Children's HourHenry Wadsworth Longfellow's beloved poem begins:

Between the dark and daylight,

When the light is beginning to lower,

Comes a pause in the day's occupations,

That is known as the children's hour.

I hear in the chamber above me

The patter of little feet;

The sound of a door that is opened,

And voices soft and sweet.

From my study I see in the lamplight,

Descending the broad hall stair,

Grave Alice, and laughing Allegra,

And Edith with golden hair.

The poem continues with the ageless tale of Longfellow's own little daughters and their nightly romp with Papa.

Together the three daughters make a charming picture. Each sister comes with a limited edition of The Children's Hour illustrated by June Amos Grammer. This lovely little hardcover book marks Lawton's first entry into the world of publishing. The book is a 6" x 8 1/2" hardcover, sixteen page book with a front cover illustration, back cover illustration, frontispiece and twelve illustrations, all in full color. This first edition will be limited to 2000 copies.

GraveAliceGrave Alice, with her lovely raven hair and deep brown eyes, is dressed in a delicate snow white dress, hand smocked with tiny pink flowers. She wears handmade, white leather, ankle-tie slippers.

LaughingAllegraLaughing Allegra's warm brown eyes twinkle with merriment and act as the perfect counterpoint to her honey blonde hair. She wears a dusty rose dress covered with a pinafore, painstakingly smocked in dusty rose and apple green. Her shoes are handmade, pink leather Mary Janes.

EdithEdith With Golden Hair, true to her name, has cascading curls of golden blonde and misty green eyes. She wears an apple green dress with a crisp white pinafore smocked with apple green and dusty rose embroidery. Her shoes are lovely little white leather Mary Janes.
